Air rescue

In 2023, DRF Luftrettung (DRF Air Rescue) carried out numerous missions from Freiburg within a radius of 60 km. In total, they were deployed almost 1,500 times.

Organ flights

At Freiburg Airport, vital organ flights are carried out, which are of crucial importance for saving human lives.

Flying Hope

In close collaboration with our partner Flying Hope, we give hope and support to children who urgently need medical help.

Hail suppression aircraft

Freiburg is home to the hail suppression station, which provides effective protection against hail damage for the local population as well as for winegrowers and farmers.

Solar panel

Freiburg Airport was one of the first airfields to be fully/independently powered by solar energy, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable energy sources.

Organ and rescue flights in Freiburg

Flora & Fauna

Auf dem Flugplatz gibt es neben dem Flugbetrieb auch viele natürliche Flächen. Dort wachsen unterschiedliche Kräuter und Wiesenpflanzen, die Lebensraum und Nahrung für Tiere bieten. In den offenen Bereichen leben kleine Säugetiere, und am Himmel sind regelmäßig größere Greifvögel unterwegs. So entsteht eine einfache, aber funktionierende Kombination aus Nutzung und Natur.

Broadleaf thyme

This type of thyme prefers sunny locations with well-drained soil and is often found in herb gardens, natural landscapes, and even rock gardens. Broadleaf thyme is known for its strong aroma and is frequently used as a culinary and medicinal herb. Its distinctive flavor adds a special touch to many dishes, such as soups, sauces, and meat dishes.

Clove oatgrass

This flower not only has aesthetic value, but also ecological importance. It attracts various insects with its nectar, including butterflies and bees, which are very important for the pollination of other plants. In addition, the clove-leaved pennycress forms dense cushions and contributes to soil stabilization, especially in harsh and dry environments.

Striped clover

The striped clover is not only an attractive plant, but also an important component in ecological systems. Its ability to fix nitrogen supports the natural balance and promotes the growth of other plants in its environment. It also provides food and habitat for insects such as bees and butterflies.

Red kite

At your commercial airfield in Freiburg, you have the opportunity to observe various animal species, including the majestic red kite. The red kite feeds mainly on small mammals such as mice, but also on birds, reptiles and carrion.

Brown hare

Brown hares (Lepus europaeus) can be found in the vicinity of the airfield in Freiburg. With their brown fur and characteristic black spots, they are at home in open landscapes and agricultural areas. The agile animals have long hind legs that allow them to hop quickly through the landscape. Brown hares feed on plant food.

Buzzard

The airfield in Freiburg offers favorable conditions for buzzards. The open areas offer plenty of food sources for these birds of prey. The buzzards use their excellent hunting skills to seize their prey, either in flight or by lying in wait from elevated perches.

CHR 54

DRF Luftrettung, in particular Christoph 54, is stationed at the airfield in Freiburg. In 2022, it carried out almost 1,500 missions and made an indispensable contribution to healthcare and safety in Freiburg. Christoph 54 is a rescue helicopter that quickly provides life-saving medical care on site. The airfield in Freiburg allows for quick missions. DRF Luftrettung works closely with rescue services and medical facilities to ensure seamless care. Its presence at the airfield underlines its importance for the region.
